About

I live in Santa Barbara, California, where I moonlight as a professional know-it-all. And I do (generally) know it all. I mean, why else would I have a blog..?

When I am not advising heads of state, managing the continental drift, or otherwise giving my opinions to anyone who has the patience, I work at my evening job as an independent film producer (industry-speak for “unemployed”). No, no credits yet. Why do you think I am still independent? I can’t really say much about my day job (top secret, of course). Besides, if I ever divulged my true identity, planets might come unaligned, err something.

The rest of me is pretty wide open. I am an avid photographer; I write short screenplays; I am trained as an economist and mathematician (God I hope I spelled that right). Lately, I’ve had to become a programmer out of necessity. Go figure!

When I have time, I write position papers on dynamic market theory and construct behavioral models that track market inefficiencies (I’m trying to cut back). I’ve also gotten into this obsession over Getting Things Done (GTD)Getting Things Done.

Some quick facts:

  • I am a Leo.
  • My favorite color is red (of course).
  • I taught myself to type in Dvorak. And I use a Qwerty keyboard.
  • I practice Gregg Shorthand in hopes that one day I will be able to write as fast as I can think.
  • For my 6th grade science fair, I constructed an electrostatic Van de Graaff generator. This got the attention of a local patent attorney, who took me on as a client. None of my inventions worked, but he was thrilled to meet with me every week anyway (usually to point out one or two Laws of Thermodynamics I was attempting to violate)!
  • Later, my fascination with bending laws of science would get channeled into commanding the forces of economics. And I’ve been constructing models to exploit market inefficiencies ever since.
  • I was a “child actor”.
  • In high school, I worked for a local paper as a cartoonist.
  • I played Tenor Sax from Jr. High through college.
  • In high school, a group of girls pleaded with me to join the marching band. I said yes, of course. I’d never gotten so much attention (and I had a crush on one of them). Later, I found out they had just lost their timpani player and needed someone to haul the kettle drums up and down the field… It didn’t last.
  • I ran cross country in college and still run today.
  • I have two nieces, two nephews and two sisters (they take turns bossing me around).
  • My favorite books are The Catcher in the RyeThe Catcher in The Rye, PapillonPapillon and as I get older, The Mayor of CasterbridgeThe Mayor of Casterbridge.
  • My real name is Adam.
  • I am dyslexic. Does it show?
